Maybe I been on Rick Ross a little too hard lately...
Now, I been contemplating this since I copped the latest issue of XXL, with Officer Ricky on the cover. He claims that his credibility isn't hurt from the last couple months, being crucified by the Hip Hop community, for lying about being a correctional officer, before we knew him for what he is today.
I always said, that I am not upset that he was a C.O. Being a correctional officer is as regular as any other job. You think if I ever were to be famous, that I'm gonna enjoy the idea of saying I use to work at Sam Goody (the root of all evil in regards to music)? What bothered me the most is that...well....it took him so long to admit it. Are you that ashamed of your past? 'Cause we all know you ain't got all that shit...then again Biggie didn't....is it going back to the idea that Officer Ricky was posing all along...that rap...is...merely...entertainment?
And all these images that we see on the television everyday, or when we play a new record, that these images are nothing more than facades of what we wish we were, or what we hope we are in the future?
Well, I know for myself, living where I live, and living with what I live with, and knowing what I know, I NEVER want that kind of living, never have and never will. so don't ever catch me rhyming like I'm the spokesperson for a clothing brand that will disappear in five years anyway.
Far as Ross, I suppose he has held his own to get him this far. All 50 did was make an ass of himself in the end, with the "Pimpin' Curly" videos while resorting to his usual antics, which in the long run.....no one cares anymore.
Does it sound like I'm figuratively kissing Ross's cellulite ass? Maybe.
But if you want me to really forgive you, make a classic rap album. Deeper Than Rap is FAR from that, but from what I've heard so far and what I'm listening to now, it's a hell of a start. But keep this in mind, keep it trilla in everything you say, and maybe we'll start to take you seriously.
