THE DOUBLE STANDARD

The double standard in hip hop has taken its toll on my mentality as of late. More recently, one white boy from Pennsylvania, that just had an album debut at #5 and along with fellow whitey, has a thing for "nappy headed hos".

Mr. Asher Roth

Now I heard about this incident about a week in advance and it didn't even get any attention til recently. Where Asher left an update on his Twitter account, where he claimed he was at Rutgers University kickin' it with "nappy headed hos".

Now at the moment I read this, I didn't even get upset and after talking to my girlfriend a little bit, I came to a conclusion.

WE AS BLACK PEOPLE GOT SOME NERVE.....

What I mean by that, is that black entertainers (more referring to hip-hop) got some nerve where we can constantly put out songs and release videos and come on other media publications, where we are constantly referring to women as nothing more than inferior to us as a male species. To where they are objects. To where they are pretty much....meaningless.

Do I accept the nature of Asher Roth's comments...no.

At the same time, who are we to be this overly offended, as we take part of the double standard everyday in our lives and careers by exploiting and glorifying the negative aspects of our culture through rampant materialism.

I mean are we celebrating the fact that we are rich or are we using our stupidity to rub our success in the faces of those that are less opportunistic or less fortunate?

I know I turned this into something that is completely off topic in regards to the Asher Roth comments, but this is an element of the incident, that plagues us today. If you can't practice what you preach, then it really shouldn't have been said in the first place. Why do you think I often go around saying that I myself am not a fucking role model?
